Child Safeguarding Statement

Ballinasloe Athletics Club

Ballinasloe Athletics Club is committed to promoting the protection, safety, and well-being of all children and young people involved in our activities. We adhere to the requirements of the Children First Act 2015, the principles outlined in Athletics Ireland’s Code of Ethics, and the Sport Ireland Safeguarding Guidance for Children and Young People in Sport.

Our Commitment

We recognise that the welfare of children is paramount. As such, Ballinasloe Athletics Club is dedicated to ensuring that all children who participate in our activities have a safe, fun, and positive experience.

Key Principles

  • The safety and welfare of children are prioritised in all club activities.
  • We value inclusivity and respect, ensuring that all children feel welcome and protected.
  • We take a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, abuse, neglect, or exploitation of children.

Risk Assessment

In compliance with the Children First Act 2015, we have completed a Risk Assessment to identify potential risks to child safety within the club. We have developed measures to minimise these risks, including:

  • Supervision of training sessions and activities by vetted and trained coaches.
  • Adherence to Athletics Ireland’s guidelines on safe recruitment practices.
  • A rota system to ensure parents and guardians assist coaches during training.

Reporting Procedures

Ballinasloe Athletics Club has appointed a Child Protection Officer (CCO) and a Designated Liaison Person (DLP) to oversee the implementation of safeguarding policies.

  • Any concerns about the welfare of a child can be reported directly to the DLP or CCO.
  • Reports will be handled sensitively and in accordance with legal requirements.

Policies and Procedures

We have implemented the following policies to ensure child safety:

  • Child Safeguarding and Protection Policy
  • Anti-Bullying Policy
